Before taking a bird home, I would want a buyer to know what it has been eating, how it reacts to handling, whether it is comfortable around people, and what routine it has followed. Keeping the first few days at home predictable can make the transition easier.
I also recommend arranging an examination with a veterinarian experienced with birds after bringing home a new cockatiel. Routine veterinary care can help identify health, nutrition and behavioral concerns early.
Feeding Your New Cockatiel
One mistake I see new owners make is assuming that a bowl full of seed is enough. It isn’t a good idea to rely on an all-seed diet as the complete nutritional plan.
Veterinary guidance recommends formulated pellets as the foundation of a cockatiel’s diet, together with appropriate vegetables and smaller amounts of fruit and seed. Fresh, clean drinking water should also be available every day.
I like to tell new owners not to make sudden food changes immediately after bringing their bird home. A cockatiel already has enough adjustment to deal with. Keeping familiar foods available while gradually introducing the new diet can make the transition less stressful.

Before purchasing cockatiels for sale, have the cage, perches, food dishes and basic toys ready. Give the bird enough room to move, climb and stretch its wings safely.
Cockatiels are active and social birds. They benefit from interaction, supervised time outside the cage and safe opportunities to chew and explore. Bird-safe wood, paper and other suitable materials can provide useful enrichment.
I also tell buyers to look around the room from the bird’s point of view. Open doors, ceiling fans, unsafe household items, other pets and unsecured windows can create hazards that are easy for a new owner to overlook.

If you are looking through cockatiels for sale, don’t be afraid to ask plenty of questions. A responsible breeder should be willing to explain the bird’s age, current diet, temperament, weaning status and routine.
For me, selling a cockatiel isn’t simply about putting a bird in a box and sending it away. I want the new owner to understand what the bird needs and what to expect during those first days together.
